Mugabe's land reform a class act
published: Wednesday | January 14, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

MANY PERSONS feel Mugabe is acting like a stealthy thief, moving through a cold windy misty night viciously plundering, destroying, maiming and murdering. If this were to be so, it would be a form of propaganda.

Mr. Robert Mugabe is an upright, even man, as far as I am concerned, reiterating what Barbara Blake-Hannah has said of this black patriarch. This land reform policy that he has started is a rich demonstration of how the whites treated us initially to acquire the land. It might seem as if I am preaching racism, no I am not. Categorically, I am not a racist. I love people no matter their social status, colour, class, and creed.

How did the whites come by the land in the first place, in not just a predominantly black nation, but a historically known black country? It has even reached a state where the blacks are placed on reserves almost like former white-dominated South Africa. We have to show solidarity for our black brothers or we will never be unfettered. Mugabe is actually demonstrating that if he has to sacrifice his life for this cause, he will do it. He is as solid as a rock and they just can't stop him now.

There will never be any peace until the evil spirits which haunt and are altering the progress of black nations are all decimated. Mr. Mugabe, I am thankful for all you are doing for the black race and especially Zimbabwe. May you have long life and a spirited progress. In the quest for a better life for your people in a white-powered world, you might have to endure unceasing pressure, but be resilient, resist and struggle on. We blacks know no pity; we have never been pitied by the white man.

I am, etc.,

PARIS TAYLOR
