CHRIS BERRY, managing director of Mayberry Investments, was appointed chairman of the Jamaica Football Federation's (JFF's) Finance Committee, according to a release from the JFF office late last week.
Last month the JFF held a press conference at its New Kingston office where treasurer Carlton Barclay revealed that the federation was in debt to the tune of $29 million, with about half of it being owed to former president Captain Horace Burrell.
Approximate values of $5 million in taxes, $6 million in unpaid salaries and $3 million in utility bills, along with miscellaneous expenses, complete the total debt.
The Finance Committee will be responsible for overseeing the JFF's funds and curtailing its expenses.
Other members on the committee are Ian Neita, vice-president of Cable and Wireless, Mark Hart, businessman with Hart Group of Companies, Earl Jarrett, president of Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), Ann Shirley, business consultant and Allan Lewis, financial consultant for Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB).
The JFF also appointed eight other committee chairpersons.
Former first vice-president of the JFF, Raymond Anderson, was reappointed to chair the Competitions Committee. Brand manager of Wray and Nephew, Andrew Price, will chair the Technical Committee. John Green will chair the Youth Development Committee and Elaine Walker-Brown will continue her duties as Women's Committee chairperson.
Former JFF presidents Heron Dale and Anthony James chair the Disciplinary Committee and the Appeals Committee respectively. Dr. Winston Dawes, also a former JFF president, returns to chair the Medical Committee.
Head of the Jamaica Football Referees' Commission (JFRC) Clayton Solomon also continues to chair the Referees Committee.
