The coconut palm disease
published: Wednesday | January 21, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

HAVING JUST visited family in Jamaica and travelled around, I noticed the problem with the coconut palm disease, especially in and around the north coast. I wonder if good date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) varieties could be planted to provide income until a cure, or disease-resistant variety of coconut is found.

Date palms will also grow in brackish water and will live for 150 years or more.

I am, etc.,
