Women - breaking the glass ceiling
published: Thursday | January 22, 2004

CURRENT DATA indicate that women have taken the lead roles in many sectors of the world's societies, in the home, in education, in medical science, the arts, in some business-related fields and even in the church.

The glass ceiling is under-pressure, as more women are taking up positions once occupied by their male counterparts, they are exuding confidence and efficiency beyond the imaginable.

Lead roles demand confident and consistent non-whiners. These are women who are focused, bearing a clarity of mind, calmness of spirit and a demonstrable sense of dignity and well-being.

With a clear understanding of the critical nature of these demands, at least one church organisation is seeking to help women within its reach to build on these major tenets of solid functioning.

Family Church on the Rock, Reading Montego Bay under the leadership of Pastor Joye Keane (who shares this role with her husband Richard) will be hosting 'Women's Gathering 2004' beginning February 5 and running for three days.

The event will seek to bring together Christian and non-Christian women from across the nation, who are seeking to understand and operate their God-given role in the current era of economic hardship and the absence of strong, positive leadership in the home and schools.

Presenting from the speakers' gallery are Opal Clarke from Victoria Mutual Building Society, Kingston, Maureen Anderson and Dionne Arceneaux from Living Word Bible Church in Mesa Arizona and Myrtle Dwyer from Half Moon Hotel, Montego Bay.

The gathering women will also feature extensive praise and worship sessions with renown gospel singers Carlene Davis, Jody McCalla and Chevelle Franklyn.

According to the organisers, women who have attended the gathering in the past have benefited spiritually and prophetically from the fellowship. This marks the third year that the church is staging the event.
