By Richard Morais, Freelance WriterTHE HIGHLY anticipated National Premier League battle between Village and Portmore United, from which many believed the other mid-season semi-finalist would have come, failed to live up to expectations yesterday with Portmore edging Village 2-1.
Although scoring one of Portmore's goals from the penalty spot in the 39th minute, Roen Nelson was woefully off target with a hat-trick of misses which aptly told how the game was played at the Elliston Wakeland Centre.
OTHER GOAL
The team's other goal was scored by Anthony Modest from a Kevin Deerr square in the 11th minute.
Village scored their goal from a brilliant free kick by Ian McAnuff in the 45th minute.
Portmore's coach, Lenworth Hyde, was elated by the win and was not upset by failing to reach the mid-season.
"Tivoli did their part," Hyde said. "When you are depending on someone to book a place for you it doesn't often work out and that's the way the game goes."
Village's coach, Lloyd Williams, said: "We gave up two early goals and paid the price."
