THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM very concerned about the role we as parents want our teachers to play in our children's development for the future. I strongly believe that teachers should teach, motivate, encourage creativity and reinforce discipline. Parents should guide their children to be obedient, confident, focused and supportive of the teaching process by following up the schoolwork and assignments and by visiting the schools to see their children at work or play.
The administration of the school is the responsibility of the principal and the Ministry of Education to implement evaluation policies that will eliminate the teachers who are not performing and rewarding those who are.
Parents who support and monitor these policies will play an important part in the performance of their children and the schools on a whole. The call for parents to get involved in the administration and evaluation of teachers is not necessary.
Parents, please monitor your children's out of school activities as this is where most of the bad influences are that they take to school. Finally, the home environment also shapes their personality and perception for reward and punishment, therefore, play your part as monitor, of the education system and parents.
I am, etc.,
