THE EDITOR, Sir:
REFERENCE IS made to a letter published in your newspaper of Wednesday, January 21, 2004, written by one H.A.P. Prendergast under the headline: 'East Rural St. Andrew MP, where are you?'
The writer, who claims to be a Minister of Religion, questions whether or not the MP for St. Andrew East Rural is male or female. One can only conclude that he/she never voted in the last General Election, or he/she would have known the sex of the candidates.
Further, the writer suggests, "that the only time you see or hear about these people is when there is an election and these people want your votes". While this observation might hold true for some persons, it is certainly not true for Joseph Hibbert, Member of Parliament for St. Andrew East Rural, who has devoted his life to working in his constituency.
It is ironic that the writer's concern is in respect of the sewage disposal system in Harbour View, a matter which was very much in the news as a result of the MP's interest and action.
