Fine display by St Jago girls at Morant Bay relays
published: Sunday | January 25, 2004

Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

ST. JAGO High School girls produced a sparkling display at yesterday's 17th SportsPlus-sponsored Howard Jackson Relays by winning nine of the 13 finals contested at the Paul Bogle Junior High School.

The girls from Monk Street, coached by Raymond 'KC' Graham, swept all but the Class 2 girls 4x600, which went to Morant Bay in 7:23.1, the Class 4 girls 4x150 (1:21.0) and Class 4 4x300 (3:03.3), which both went to Immaculate.

Graham said he was satisfied with the overall performance from the girls.

"In all the classes the girls did extremely well and this all bodes well for the future," Graham told The Sunday Gleaner.

He went on to say, "Top schools Vere, Edwin Allen and Holmwood were not present but what impressed me was the authority with which they (girls) won their races and the times they posted. This proves to me that we have a quality team and we will have to continue the good work for the rest of the season."

Numbered among St. Jago's victories: Class 3 4x600m (7:19.2) ahead of Lewisville (7:29.8); Class 1 4x600m (7:46.6); Class 3 1x150m (1:18.5) ahead of St. Andrew (1:18.6); Class 2 4x150m (1:17.19) ahead of St. Andrew (1:20.7); Class 1 4x150m in 1:16.0 ahead of St. Andrew (1:20.8).

The St. Jago girls also took the medley (900m, 300m, 600m, 1200m) in 9:33.1 ahead of St. Andrew (9:37.7), while the boys section went to Holmwood (7:55.9) ahead of Lewisville (8:11.9) and STATHS (8:20.5).

St. Jago rounded off an impressive day with victories in the Class 3 4x300m (2:54.1), Class 2 4x300m (2:53.3) and Class 1 4x300m (2:51.1).
