Mona Primary's goal attack, Chantoy Gordon (left), and Hope Valley's goalkeeper, Shantor Nichols, jump for a ball during the final of their Insport/Colgate/Art & Fabric Primary School Netball Rally at the Leila Robinson Courts on Friday. Mona won 9-4.

TWO-TIME defending champs Mona Primary grabbed their third straight Insport/Colgate/Art & Fabric Primary School Netball Rally trophy after defeating Hope Valley Primary 9-4 in the final game at the Leila Robinson Courts on Friday.

The two finalists emerged from 24 participants in the all-day affair and Mona established themselves as a force to be reckoned with when the league starts Wednesday.

Mona began by thrashing Ormsby Hall 11-1 in the quarter-finals and Tarrant 9-3 in the semi-finals.

Coach of Mona, Maurine Murray, was excited after the game and said that the girls did themselves and the school proud.

"Hard work and dedication paid off for us today. Our goal attack Chantoy Gordon played like a real leader and we shot very well throughout the game," she said.

In the spirit of the sport, Hope Valley celebrated along with Mona and their coach Donna Thorpe-Walsh would not allow any sour faces from her players.

"I believe they did excellently despite the fact that they lost to Mona; they just made a few errors but I am confident that we will do well in the league. We are coming for the league title," Thorpe-Walsh said.

The co-ordinator of the rally, Owen Webster, said he was pleased with Friday's rally and that it was a sign of things to come for the league.

"We have 42 schools in the competition this year and we've never had so many. We are looking for a high level of competition. The teams are far more experienced now. Most of them were in the competition last year and they are going to come out and give a hard fight," he said.

Webster also thanked the sponsors, saying: "I'm happy to say that Colgate has put out 100 per cent in making sure that we have a lovely league."
