GTECH JAMAICA, the local division of GTECH Corporation and the technical and service provider for Supreme Ventures Limited, on Friday announced its decision to contribute a total of $3 million to the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) over the next three years. The money will go towards the construction of two new operating theatres and an intensive care unit.

Ann-Dawn Young Sang, finance manager at GTECH, handed over the first instalment of $1 million to the chairman of the University Hospital of the West Indies Fund-raising Committee, R. Danny Williams, during a tour of the facility now under construction. Gavin Beckford marketing manager at GTECH was also in attendance.

Presently, the operating theatre facilities are inadequate to cope with the increasing demand for both elective and emergency procedures. The high rate of trauma in the society, Mr. Williams noted, has further exacerbated the situation.

Mr. Williams was delighted that GTECH could be a part of such a project, which is expected to improve healthcare for Jamaicans and the Caribbean region.

"This contribution is sincerely appreciated as it will be of considerable assistance to the project," Mr. Williams said.

During the past decade and a half, GTECH has established itself as the leader in online lottery systems and services. Its leadership extends across six continents with customers in 43 countries worldwide.
