By Anthony Foster, Freelance WriterTHREE BIG names have been confirmed for next Saturday's Queen's School/Grace Jackson Development Meet to be held at the National Stadium East track, starting at 8:30 a.m.
Sportswoman of the Year and world's No. 2 ranked 100 metres female hurdler, Brigitte Foster, along with national 100 metres men's champion Asafa Powell and national men's high jump record holder Germaine Mason are down to open their 2004 campaign.
Foster is expected to line-up in the 100m flat, an event in which she boasts a personal best of 11:23 seconds.
Powell, who pulled up at the Grand Prix final in Monaco just over four months ago, is expected to face the starter in the 100m. He had a good season last year, which included a personal best (10.02) at the Memorial Van Damme/IAAF Grand Prix meet in Belgium, three-hundredths of a second below his previous best.
FINE SEASON
Mason also had a fine season, breaking the national high jump record three times with a personal best of 2.34m, and ended the year ranked at No. 2 behind Sweden's Stefan Holm.
The Queen's School meet, which is sponsored by Colgate and the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), has also attracted athletes from High schools and colleges who will compete for medals and prizes.
The events to be contested this year are the: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 400m hurdles, high jump and triple jump.
