THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE JAMAICA Public Service Company (JPSCo) must do a lot better, if they intend to continue to be paid for their job. Blown bulbs, lights that stay on day and night and dark, dangerous corners that still have not been provided with light after years of request, must end right now.
Let me remind all the government service industries that this Local Government will not be tolerating poor, sloppy service. We expect the work to be done and to be done well. I urge the JPSCo to look into its management capabilities in Mandeville and to put in systems that enable the service department to know what is going on. It cannot be acceptable for customers to be working with one side of the company, when the other side does not know what is happening.
This poor, poor service and complete lack of concern for the people of Mandeville cannot continue. I have already made the recommendation to the Manchester Parish Council that the JPSCo not be paid its full amount of funds until all the lights have been repaired and are functioning. The Mayor and I had a very strong meeting with the JPSCo a few weeks ago and while a few bulbs have been replaced, many still are not working.
I urge the JPSCo to go full speed into a well organised system of repair and to erect the new street lights immediately.
I am, etc.,
SALLY PORTEOUS,
Deputy Mayor of Mandeville
