Who are our children's keepers?
published: Tuesday | January 27, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT IS sad that our Jamaican children are often victims of evil in our society. They are victims of abuse, crime, violence and road fatalities. It seems as if they are left alone in the society to wade their way through life. Is the society looking out for our children or is this responsibility left to a few devoted Jamaicans in the society?

All of us are our children's keepers. All of us need to be proactive keepers for our children, ensuring that they are exposed to an environment that is children-friendly. Let us not wait until tragedy happens before we act for the good of our children.

Or to use an example, let us not wait until a student trying to cross the road dies before safety measures are put in place. The future demands that we act now for the sake of our children.

I am, etc.,

DENISE MINOTT
