'Combolo' a must-see
published: Tuesday | January 27, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WOULD like to commend the production team and cast of the 2003/2004 pantomime Combolo for a splendid performance. From ever since I can remember I have had a deep interest in Jamaican culture and drama. As a result, every year my family and I have been avid watchers of the national pantomimes, (with the exception of last year's production).

However, over the past five years, we gradually became dissatisfied with quality of the shows due to either poor scripts, performances or the loss of the pantomime spirit. We were however pleasantly refreshed upon seeing this year's production. It was a delightful experience filled with good humour, great music, impressive set designs and a fair story line.

Special commendations to the set designers and stage crew. Each scene was so vividly different and realistic, you would almost imagine that you are in a real storm or atop a mountain along with the actors. Even though the production is not the best that I have seen, it is truly a step forward relative to its position in the previous years.

It was obvious from the laughter and spirit of those in the audience that the production was thoroughly enjoyed both by the young and the old. My only regret was that the theatre was more than 25 per cent empty. I encourage Jamaica to fill that gap and go and enjoy Combolo.

I am, etc.,
