ARMED WITH his acoustic guitar, a jovial Moses Davis prepared for his release from the St. Joseph's Hospital yesterday.
Various media houses and a few well-wishers of Beenie Man, all gathered inside the hospital's conference room to get the latest on the deejay's condition.
Dr. June Francis, who is a family physician and Beenie's personal doctor, says he is almost back to a hundred per cent, but emphasised that he would need at least a full month of rest before taking on any form of work.
After spending almost two weeks in hospital and with two inserted chest tubes due to the collapse of his left lung, Beenie said he was thankful to all who played a part in his recovery.
"The treatment here was perfect, perfect, and I want to thank God Almighty for taking me out of that accident and to all the doctors (he was under the immediate care of Dr. Paul Baker) and the Cuban nurses who attended to me round the clock," Beenie said.
TWO FRACTURED RIBS
Beenie suffered two fractured ribs and the collapse of his left lung after a motor vehicle accident on the Mandela Highway earlier this month.
While reflecting on the accident, Beenie admitted to not wearing his seat belt, but contended that it worked in his favour. "If I did follow the laws of Jamaica, I wouldn't be here," Beenie said, as he explained that he was able to move from the front of the vehicle to avoid fatal injuries.
According to Beenie, he was adhering to the speed limit of 80 miles per hour, but was not aware that there were modifications to a section of the Mandela Highway. "I am a professional driver, I wasn't under the influence of anything and I wasn't tired," he said.
MISSING IN ACTION
Despite being missing in action for almost two weeks, having to deal with his doctor's fee and contend with a comprehensive write-off on his Hummer, Beenie told The Gleaner that there were no real set-backs, whether financially or otherwise. "No set backs, everything I spend, I'll mek back," he said.
After the press conference Beenie told The Gleaner that he intended to buy another hummer and he says he already ordered one. "Yea man, mi a buy a nex one, same H2 series, 2004," the deejay said.
As it relates to shows and engagements, Beenie says that there were no cancellations but all his shows were pushed back to accommodate his recovery.
"Mi wi si everybody in a month's time doing what I do best," Beenie said.
Then just before making his way down the corridors of the hospital to finish packing his belongings he gave a sample of a tune he composed while in hospital.
"God knows, like yesterday, life is just a reflection in the mirror..."
