Derrick Mitchell will only serve 15 years, however, as the sentences of 15 years and 10 years will run concurrently on convictions for shooting with intent and illegal possession of a firearm.
In his defence, he gave his girlfriend as alibi, and she told the court they were home all weekend, The Gleaner heard.
Mitchell who is also accused of robbing a police officer of $1,000 last year, will face those charges in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court. His recent conviction arose from an attempt by him and another man to hold up a restaurant on Barnett Street, Montego Bay, on October 31 last year.
Mitchell had a gun and the other man had a knife which they used to stage the robbery.
The owner of the business, who is a licensed firearm holder, challenged the men and a shoot-out ensued.
The police was subsequently called in. Mitchell was later pointed out on identification parade by two witnesses.
