Your cartoon tells the truth
published: Thursday | January 29, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WHOEVER IS drawing for The Gleaner's cartoon strip, keep it up because it makes a lot more sense than the words, both written and spoken. These cartoons while satirical are the truth. I loved the one with Clarke and the JHTA. Such a simple thing, beef. Our butchers are still using carpenter tools and machetes and have very limited knowledge of animal anatomy. So, Mr. Clarke, the question sign has an answer.

Farming is no longer a trade where low-skilled people can survive. A farmer needs maths, accounting, finance, marketing, a multitude of sciences to understand the chemicals and his animals, skilled farm workmen, and the all-important common sense. So, Mr. Clarke, if there is a shortage of cuts because of the ban on beef, the problem lies in the butcher because we have the cattle.

Maybe HEART could get two foreign/local professional butchers to teach butchery and how to use modern machines. I believe we need solutions and answers in Jamaica instead of complaining about a half-full glass.

I am etc.,
