Indiscipline in our society
published: Thursday | January 29, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WOULD like to thank The Gleaner for publishing the picture (27.01.04), of students of Merl Grove High School crossing the road because it would appear that they have not learnt by the untimely and tragic passing of their fellow student just three days prior.

It is a symptom of the indiscipline of our society that despite the publicity surrounding the incident of little Sharaka; despite the warden being placed prominently at an area where students (and other pedestrians) are to cross in a safer zone; and I am sure despite warnings that the school must have given on last Friday in regard to this tragic event, we still ignore all the safety measures put in place and do our own thing cross where we want to cross.

I do trust that the parents of the two students in your picture strongly reprimand their children; and that the picture is placed all around the school with a big, warning 'stop' sign with an X through it.

I am, etc.,

J. WHITE

Kingston 5,
