Patrice Christie, tiny but powerful
published: Thursday | January 29, 2004

HER SHORTNESS was what endeared her to the crowd and she duly responded by winning the St. Mary Parish finals.

"I am very nervous and very excited at the same time because it is a fabulous chance to win," she said in a sprightly voice. She thinks that the training with her coach is going well and her preparation is right on track. Even though she is 10 years old and in Grade 5, this was her second year participating in the Spelling Bee. "Last year's experience helped me to get used to the words. It helped me to pronounce the words better." This cannot be overstated as she has the parish trophy to prove it.

Her hobbies include reading, singing and dancing. She feels that no matter what happens in Kingston, she will gain more self confidence from participating in the competition. She assured us that not only her coach, but her principal will be making the trip with her to the national finals, to give her support.
