By Ayanna Kirton, Staff Reporter GARY Lee-Sin and Peter Bovell have joined forces to run Docutech, a company specialising in quality printing with the help of state-of- the art technology. Docutech, formerly a Xerox centre, still maintains close ties with this world leader in printing, using Xerox copiers and digital printers to ensure timely delivery of its services. "Xerox plays a big role in this business because we rely on their products to deliver 99 per cent of our services," said Mr. Bovell.
Productive Business Solutions (PBS) is another company that plays an integral role in the delivery of Docutech's services. PBS services all the company's equipment and supplies Docutech with paper, ink cartridges and other necessary business solutions.
"We realise that companies are aware that there are various advantages to outsourcing their printing and copying jobs," said Mr. Lee-Sin, director of Docutech. "It saves them time because our equipment is faster and the quality is more superior compared with smaller, slower in-house photocopiers and printers." "It is also cost effective saving them the expense of purchasing high quality equipment for millions of dollars," said Mr. Lee-Sin. Mr. Bovell shares the same sentiments. "Quick printing is the way of the future," he said. "Assistance is also readily available from graphic artists for our customers who may not be experts at using computer technology to achieve their objectives," he said.
MAJOR ACCOUNTS
With 700 major accounts, Docutech's clients consist of Government ministries, banks, advertising agencies, graphic artists, and anyone in need of quick printing or copying services. " Jamaica is a captive market for our services, " said Mr. Lee-Sin. "We have large jobs commissioned by huge companies and at the same time there are customers who come in to print one document," he said, describing Docutech's cross section of clients.
As a highly capital intensive operation, Docutech must strive to keep abreast of technological advancements in the industry. According to Mr. Lee-Sin this can prove very challenging in an environment where technology costs are high. " Equipment is expensive and there are no facilities available locally to trade in older equipment for newer models," he said. "A copier can cost up to $8 million and we are a little behind the developed world because the products are costly but that is the reality of this business," he said.
LATEST TECHNOLOGY
However, Mr. Lee-Sin said keeping up to date with the latest technology is critical the success of the business. He strives to expand the company's knowledge base by attending industry workshops annually to stay on top of global trends and maintain contact with suppliers.
As Mr. Lee-Sin's new partner, Mr. Bovell plans to increase the level of the quality of Docutech's customer service to maintain the company's position as one of the leaders in the industry. He will focus primarily on the marketing and strategic planning of the business while Mr. Lee-Sin, with years of experience in systems programming and sales locally and internationally, will handle the technical direction of the company. Both will also work to maximise the number of services offered by Docutech to help people find better and faster ways to execute their ideas using document technologies and products in an attempt to improve their businesses and ensure results.
