THERE HAS been a major shake-up in the investigative arm of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), especially among the federated ranks.
Some young, experienced and energetic detectives have been reassigned to the crime-prone sections of the Corporate Area, St. Catherine and St. James. Others have been transferred to CIB Headquarters in Kingston, St. James, Clarendon and St. Ann.
IMMEDIATE EFFECT
The transfers were with immediate effect and the Kingston Central, St. Andrew North and St. Catherine South CIB offices have received additional personnel.
Most affected is St. Catherine, particularly Spanish Town, where at least 12 persons were shot and killed and over 20 others shot and injured over the past two weeks. Several long-serving officers at that division have been reassigned.
Among the senior officers transferred are Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Dean Taylor from Spanish Town to Homicide, and DSP Neville Salmon from Homicide to Area three. Other transfers are pending.
"We want to bring more energy to the divisions," said Deputy Commissioner Lucius Thomas when contacted about the latest moves.
When pressed, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP ) Thomas pointed to complacency on the part of some policemen. He further said it could also be in the best interest of personal development.
Meantime, the Police High Command has expressed full confidence in the leadership of Superintendent Clifford Blake, the commanding officer for the troubled St. Catherine Division.
"He is doing an excellent job, given the resources that he has," said a member of the High Command.
