Victimising communities?
published: Thursday | February 5, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir,

JUST READ the story, "Tighter Security Measures for Farm Workers" (Wed, February 4) and maybe the public relations spokesperson misunderstood what the minister said regarding the areas from which the alleged drug smugglers originated.

"...The Minister has said that the communities identified - Rock River, Old Harbour and Penlyne Castle District - will be banned from the programme," the story ended.

That's exactly the position Jamaicans would not like foreign governments, such as Canada's, to take towards all our nationals when a few Jamaican-born renegades shoot up their towns or bring in drugs.

Therefore, the minister might want to have his public relations officer say what he really meant: Surely he was not victimising whole communities because of a few rotten eggs.

I am, etc.,
