Good news goes unnoticed
published: Saturday | February 7, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WE JAMAICANS are so consumed and overwhelmed by our going bad news tragedies, rising costs of living, despair that good news, and there is occasional good news, either goes unnoticed, or is sidelined.

The good news to which I now refer is the appointment as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Canada of our Jamaican Alvin Curling now the Hon. Alvin Curling! To my knowledge the first Jamaican to secure this signal honour.

I am particularly proud at this time, as I was privileged to be one of those youth club workers who were mercilessly kept on our professional toes by Professor Rex Nettleford and theHon. Alvin Curling. No senior members' conference however well organised escaped the challenging scrutiny of the TWO. So look at us now we all benefited.

I regard these two distinguished gentlemen as sons of the Jamaica Youth Clubs' Council which served for sometime, and pray for their continued success and well-being.

So give a thought or two to them, Jamaica, despite the present hardship, they have done us proud.

I am, etc.,

THELMA P. CAMPBELL,

M.B.E, Justice of the Peace
