Give teachers respect!
published: Saturday | February 7, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I READ with disgust in recent weeks issues concerning teachers. I consider teachers to be the most multi-talented, resourceful professionals I've ever seen.

Teachers are paid way below their worth and yet still, they are expected to provide a range of services free of cost. Lawyers and other professionals are paid for meeting with them. However, this is not the case with teachers. Parents and other people barge in on teachers and expect to get attention immediately. Teachers are counsellors, financial supporters for students, mothers, fathers and fill so many more gaps.

Teachers, through their commitment and dedication, and unselfish service, have served this country unreservedly and it's time for us to give them the respect they so deserve.

I am, etc.,

P. SCOTT
