American killed in freak accident
published: Saturday | February 7, 2004

By Nagra Plunkett, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

AN 84-YEAR-OLD American was killed and three other persons injured in a freak accident along the Carey Park main road in Trelawny on Thursday when the ambulance in which they were travelling crashed.

Harold Fox of Rover Mill Road, Maryland, United States a visiting cruise passenger was being transported to a private hospital for treatment, after he reportedly fell ill.

The injured were identified as his wife Carol Fox, 64; Kahlil Barnett, the 22-year-old driver and Kameka James, a 22-year-old medical technician.

According to the police, Mr. Fox, a passenger on the Atlantica, was aboard the ship docked at the Ocho Rios Pier, when he fell ill.

He and his wife were being transported to the MoBay Hope Medical Hospital in St. James when the accident occurred. Barnett, the driver of the Ambu-Care ambulance, reportedly lost control of the vehicle while traversing the Carey Park main road about 9:25 a.m., and crashed into a utility pole.

All four occupants sustained injuries and were taken to the Falmouth Hospital and were later transferred to MoBay Hope, where Mr. Fox succumbed to his injuries. Mrs. Fox and the driver were treated and released while James was admitted in serious condition.

The Duncans Police in Trelawny are investigating the incident.
