Rain prevents play in Ja match
published: Saturday | February 7, 2004

ST. JOHN'S, Antigua, CMC

NOT A ball was bowled on the opening day in the fifth round match of the Carib Beer 2004 Cricket Series between West Indies 'B' and Jamaica at Stanford Cricket Ground yesterday.

Overnight and early morning rain prevented the players from taking the field in the key match between the third-placed West Indies 'B' on 24 points and fourth-placed Jamaicans on 22 points.

As a result of the washout, play will commence half hour earlier on the second day if the conditions allow.

Stung by their opponents in the previous round, both West Indies 'B' and Jamaica were hoping to go all out for points to cement their positions in the top four.

In the three seasons of the West Indies 'B's existence, Jamaica have won all their matches against the development side.

Meanwhile, a release out of the West Indies Cricket Board's head office in St. John's, Antigua yesterday said the tour match against the visiting England team will be against a Carib Beer XI.

This match will be played during the break between the second and third Tests in the 2004 Cable & Wireless Series.

The match is scheduled to be played from 26th to 28th March, 2004 at the 3W's Oval at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies, Barbados.
