Put the sizzle in your weekend
published: Monday | February 9, 2004

By Shelly-Ann Thompson, Freelance Writer

IT'S NOT very often that Valentine's Day comes on the weekend and when it does, like this year, couples should romance like there is no Monday. For a fun-filled and romantic weekend incorporate these tips into your plans, which will help to make those days sizzle.

FRIDAY MORNING:

This is when the romantic expressions of your love begins. Put a note in his pocket (or the car's glove compartment) with words of encouragement and convey how much you love him. If you normally pack his lunch for work, you could include a love note with kisses.

FRIDAY MIDDAY:

Let him know that the note he found was not there by mistake. E-mail a love letter expressing how you feel about him, or make a short phone call professing your undying love to him (you should write down what you are going to say). Sending flowers is also a good idea (yes, guys like flowers too) and try sending exotic flowers instead of roses.

FRIDAY EVENING:

This is the prelude to the big day so you will want him to be longing for the next day. Make dinner together and eat by candlelight, then afterwards slow dance to your favourite songs. Or if a visit to the cinema is not on your Saturday list, take him to a movie that he wants to see.

SATURDAY:

There is so much one can do on this day, especially if you are not tied up with a nine-to-five job. However, this is the big V-Day. The day when you must reinforce that your love is real. Pull out all the stops. Most importantly, you must do what will make him comfortable. Something that your partner will appreciate and be surprised about at the same time. Prepare a sumptuous breakfast, making it special with an elegantly decorated table. Give him a coupon entitling him to a double partner visit to the spa and dinner afterwards. Instead of the cinema, watch your favourite classics at home. Dedicate to him a song on the radio, ensure that it is a station that he listens to. Check into your favourite hotel or you could re-create your first date.

SUNDAY:

The day is gone but you still love him. Have a picnic at the beach and ensure that you have included fruits among the food. Watch a sunset together at your favourite outdoor spot, and tell him the top 10 reasons why you love him.
