THE EDITOR SIR:
The Gleaner on the 6th was on the money in addressing the starting point of where we need to focus our energies to build a better Jamaica for all. It had the right focus and I encourage you to continue to support your writers and commentators to stay on these stories of how badly our first-line defenders and responders are really treated.
The Police, Firefighters, Emergency Medical Responders, Teachers, Nurses are some of the most visible representatives of our government. They get up daily to do the job few are willing to do and for the most part at great risk to their own lives.
These brave men and women are true "Jamaican Heroes". They deserve to be treated with respect, supported by the people, and provided the resources to do their duties. They also deserve good leadership selected from their ranks, appointed and elected.
It is true money is tight in the government just as it is in many households and that is why we elect leaders to make the hard decisions. These decisions however cannot come at a cost to the people's safety, health and welfare, therefore elected leaders should be held accountable. It is critical that the government invest in the security, education, good health and overall welfare of the people it represents.
I am, etc.,
