CABLE AND Wireless has appointed Stephen Brewer to be chief executive, Caribbean Mobile.
He will be based in the Cayman Islands and will work with Cable and Wireless businesses throughout the Caribbean region to expand and strengthen their existing mobile operations.
Stephen Brewer joins Cable and Wireless from Vodafone UK, where he has been managing director of sales and distribution since October 2001. Prior to joining Vodafone, he was chief executive of Eircell in Ireland. He was appointed in 1996 to prepare Eircell to face competition and built it into one of Ireland's leading companies. He prepared Eircell for sale to the Vodafone Group in one of Ireland's largest-ever corporate deals. He then oversaw its transition from a stand-alone national company to an integral part of the Vodafone Group, with himself as CEO, Vodafone (Ireland). He had previously held senior commercial posts with France Telecom Mobile and BT Cellnet. Kevin Loosemore, chief operating officer of Cable and Wireless, said: "Stephen Brewer has established an excellent track record in mobile telecoms over the past 15 years. In the Caribbean, where markets are newly liberalised, Cable and Wireless is committed to competing in all sectors of telecommunications and has been working with governments to introduce a sustainable competitive environment. Mobile is an important and growing area of the business, and Stephen's skills will play a key role in developing Cable and Wireless' competitive edge."
