SHARON HAY-WEBSTER, the Member of Parliament for South Central St. Catherine, has written to her counterpart, Olivia 'Babsy' Grange, MP for Central St. Catherine, apologising for the boisterous behaviour of her constituents who on Monday accused Ms. Grange of inciting gang violence in their community.
The verbal attack on Ms. Grange came during a tour of Spanish Town and its environs. The tour was organised by the Bishop Herro Blair-led Peace Management Initiative (PMI) and was aimed at bringing peace to communities rocked by weeks of violence which has left 12 people dead and 20 injured.
Mrs. Hay-Webster's letter read in part: "Please accept my apologies for any discomfort which you may have experienced as a result of remarks passed by some members of the vibrant crowd who were part of the PMI hearing and walk yesterday (Monday)."
In response, Ms. Grange accepted the apology, adding: "It was most unfortunate that the verbal attack on me by a small number of residents who I met seem to have overshadowed what I considered to have been a success overall. I am very happy that the appropriate courtesies were extended to you when you accompanied me on the walk in Central St. Catherine. Although my constituents were displeased about the discourtesies I experienced in yours."
