THE EDITOR, Sir:
I PAUSE today to have a word with young people. I know that it is hard for you to accept the challenges that life will bring, and although we the older heads know that it is hard for you to grasp when even in the common round, there is hardly good reasoning today.
Who are pacesetters, who are role models? Yes, there are quite a few but how, where and when will our young ones understand when, on the contrary, the views of pacesetters, the good role models is compounded, is enveloped or shattered by evil thoughts or deeds that should not be.
In my generation the ancestors provided for their young. Today though sources are easier, the challenges are heavier, as brotherly love is not like yesterday. Things are more costly and thought is deeper on the generation gap. Can the gap be bridged? If so, where do we begin? Is it that since the eye is open, in that we know much of what are our rights while there are those who think that there is not enough time to freely give what belongs to whoever as my greatest regret is how we as a people find it difficult to be reasonable with one another.
One vital point that I think the young people should stop and think over, is that many times progress does not come overnight; in days of yore you would start with a small salary as a young person and work yourself up to a decent pay.
I am, etc.,
