THE EDITOR, Sir:
WHO IS going to bell the cat? Leaders from parties must come out publicly and dissociate themselves from the so-called dons. In other words, they need to sever their 'umbilical cord' from their sons.
The recent flare-up of violence in Spanish Town is coming from deep-rooted issues that require more from the politicians if they are to be solved. These criminal activities evolved out of social problems that have not been addressed.
However, one wonders why are these gangs so organised; and who gave them so much power. As far as I am concerned, there is only one Constabulary Force and the Jamaica Defence Force; not gangs or dons trying to defend their turf. Therefore, we need to support our security forces.
Congratulation must go out to Bruce Golding and Heather Robinson who came out publicly and denounced interaction of politicians with these so-called dons.
On a different note, the Prime Minister of Jamaica is appealing to parents with sons who are involved in criminal activities to stop sheltering them. But what about some politicians and some policemen who are alleged to know where the gunmen are? It is also alleged that they themselves are benefiting from the services of the dons to secure their political office.
We need a special day of fasting and prayer where everyone stops working except for emergency workers.
Everybody should stop saying, it is not my responsibility. There is only one police force in Jamaica, not the dons. If we do not find the solution, the dons will find the solution.
I am, etc.,
