Musical attempt at national healing
published: Wednesday | February 11, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

FEBRUARY 6, 2004 was a historic day in Jamaica's history. Not only was it Bob Marley's 59th birthday but also at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre over 25 well-known Jamaican recording artistes and DJs, all teachers of One Love, gathered to invite Jamaicans everywhere to join them in a national healing.

It was the first attempt in history to heal a society through individual acts of love, forgiveness, compassion, and kindness. The concert was free a gift to Jamaica from all participating. No corporate or government funds were involved. The JCDC donated the venue and stage management and all the artistes and emcees performed at no charge. Thanks to the co-operative efforts of much of the media it was aired live on CVM, HOT 102, RJR Radio and Linkup Media and PLUSH TV in the US and will be aired this coming week by Reggae Sun, ROOTSFM, TVJ, XM Satellite Radio and RE-TV. Millions of people will share the vibe.

No matter how it may appear otherwise, Jamaica is ready for this healing. Through its conscious reggae music, it is the only country to have birthed a message of One love. This message is not just the creation of the reggae artistes alone but of the entire culture. It reflects the heart and soul of Jamaica. Give thanks.

We are, etc.,

Abijah, Bushman, DYCR, Fab 5, Cherry & Little Natural, Antonnette Haughton, I'ngel Chanta, Junior Reid, Keteis, Mackie Conscious, Maroon drummers and dancers, Mystic Revelation of Rastafari, Prezident Brown, Richie B, Ernie Smith, Daniel Thompson, Warrior King, Elaine Wint.
