published: Wednesday | February 11, 2004

JAMAICAN SPRINTER Asafa Powell has moved into 10th in the latest International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Indoor Rankings released at the beginning of the week.

The 21-year-old recorded a comfortable 6.56 (1,278 points, 1,338 points in Performance Score) for victory in the men's 60m dash at Saturday's Verizon Millrose Games held in Madison Square Garden, New York.

NEW PERSONAL BEST

Powell, a student at UTech, set a new personal best by running sub-6.60 for only the second time in his life. Meanwhile, World Junior 100m record holder Darrel Brown of Trinidad and Tobago is ninth just ahead of Powell.

American 37-year-old hurdler Gail Devers, the reigning World 60m hurdles champion, clocked an impressive 7.76 (1338 points in Performance Score) to win at the 97th Games was the performance of the week.
