THE EDITOR, Sir:
PLEASE ALLOW me space in your newspaper to point out a very obvious double standard which is practised in Jamaica. This double standard is so rampant, it has even found itself in the rank and file of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
The recent report of guns missing from a police station in Greater Portmore, St. Catherine, has resulted in the Commissioner of Police taking swift action against the senior officer in charge of that station, Glenford Hudson. He has been relieved of his post.
While we must hold all responsible and accountable for any wrongdoing, we have to uphold justice, truth, and fairness at all times.
I agree with the Commissioner of Police to relieve this officer of his post due to his assumed negligence.
The double standard is this: SSP Reneto Adams and men under his control were involved in the killing of seven young men in Braeton several years ago.
The Director of Public Prosecution, after all these years, ruled last year that crimes were committed and has charged several police officers for murder.
Excluded from all charges is the officer who was in charge of this operation. It is alleged his weapon was not involved in the murders.
I find it very strange that Supt. Glenford Hudson was relieved of his post for guns gone missing under his leadership, but SSP Reneto Adams was not implicated or held responsible for murders that were committed under his leadership in Braeton years ago? Can someone please explain this to us?
I am, etc.,
