Refugee talks here
published: Thursday | February 19, 2004

By Claude Mills, Staff Reporter

A JOINT meeting between the Ministries of Health, National Security, Social Security and Foreign Affairs, the Police High Command, and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) will be held this Friday to map strategies to tackle the possible fallout from the political turmoil in neighbouring Haiti.

The meeting will be held at the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The ODPEM will be looking at facilities to see if they can house large numbers of refugees, and assist in the delivery of welfare and release needs," Paul Saunders, deputy director of the ODPEM, said.

"The Parish Disaster Committee will deal with the welfare of these persons, with the help of agencies like the Salvation Army, Red Cross, and the Ministry of Social Security, and the Ministry of Health."
