THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT IS all well and good that Minister Paulwell has secured the branding of the name 'Jamaica'. It only helps to curtail fraudulent and counterfeit production of Jamaican goods. But where is the international marketing of Jamaican goods and services?
If Jamaica continues to have fewer and fewer goods and services to offer to the international market, what good is securing the branding of 'Jamaica'?
Jamaica has to let the international market realise that the products and services provided there are of top quality and can compete on the world stage.
The 'Buy Jamaican' campaign should not just be for the local patrons, but also for the international community. Let the world know that Jamaica is not just the home of reggae, Blue Mountain Coffee and a great vacation destination, but superb products such as apparel, leather goods, furniture, construction materials and great food and beverages, to name just a few.
The more Jamaica promotes itself and sells its goods and services, the more jobs will be created and in turn the stronger the economy and lower the crime rate.
Brand 'Jamaica' is a good thing, but marketing Jamaica, 'Buy Jamaican' goods and services on the world stage, is better.
I am, etc.,
