THE EDITOR, Sir:
AS I listen and read daily about the police I realize that there are many people in the society who do not know what is really happening in the Police Force. The police are among the worst treated workers in this country. No one seems to pay any attention to their plight but so many find it easy to condemn them.
The Police Force is divided into Division, Branch and Section. Some of the branches and sections are totally forgotten by those in charge of the Force. Personnel in these areas are often forgotten and treated with contempt. Take the almost defunct Immigration section, an arm of the Jamaica Constabulary Force that has performed with distinction over the years, carrying out their duty with professionalism and dedication, sometimes under severe hardship that would cause most people to give up. Yet, the few men and women who remain there must be asking God what have they done, they are being treated with discourtesy and are being neglected by the top brass of the Force.
The situation is so embarrassing for the members, that no matter where they are sent after this, their only choice will be to find the quickest way out.
Police are poorly managed and treated very badly.
Why doesn't someone who has some influence and is truthful, take a look at the condition, treatment and management of the police? Tell me why those who lead never can speak to the issue of welfare or the need for training for Police Officers.
I am, etc.,
