Western clubs hunt third-round victories

WESTERN BUREAU:

A SEEMINGLY resurgent Arnett Gardens will be seeking their second straight win over Reno when they meet this afternoon in a Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) third round Zone A game at the Frome Sports Club, starting at 3:30 p.m.

The teams will be meeting for the third time this season having split the two previous games with the side's winning their home games. Reno won 2-1 at Frome in the first round while Arnett took the second-round game 1-0 at the Tony Spalding Complex.

In their most recent NPL game, Arnett blanked high-riding Harbour View 3-0 and they should pose a formidable opponent for Reno today.

The Jerome Waite-coached team is likely to be back at full strength with the likes of Cornel Chin-Sue, Kwame Richardson, Kevin Wilson, Walter Boyd and Ray Graham available for selection.

Reno showed some life late in the second round and will be playing at home for the first time in this round and will be hoping to make a positive start.

Nicholoy Findlayson, who was a part of the national team which played against a Chinese Under-23 team last week, should bolster the defence while Nyron Davis, Kirk Wright and Delvano Brown will lead the attack.

Meanwhile, strugglers Seba United and Invaders will meet in a western derby at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in a game both need to win if they hope to claw their way out of relegation danger.

Seba United are still seeking their first NPL win under new coach Tommy Taylor but looked competitive against Constant Spring in their last outing. If they continue to improve, then they should start favourites to beat Invaders for the second straight meeting between the teams.

The former two-time champions showed lots of cohesion against Constant Spring and were for long periods the better team on the field. They were unfortunate not to come away with full points after a hotly disputed late goal was disallowed.

Seba won 3-1 when the teams last met at Jarrett Park after drawing 0-0 at Elliston in their first-round game.

Seba will be hoping to have the services of national representatives Theodore Whitmore and Damion Williams in the midfield for the first time this season.

They should team up with Kemar Mills, Denzil Watson, Jermaine Anderson and Norman Foster against an Invaders team that has conceded 39 goals so far this season.

Invaders will however welcome back national Under-23 goalkeeper Richard McCallum who missed the past three games because of national duties.
