Haiti shift focus to Boyz
published: Monday | February 23, 2004

HIALEAH, Florida, CMC:

HAITI booked a second round CONCACAF World Cup qualifying meeting with Jamaica on Saturday night when they predictably completed a first-round thumping of Turks & Caicos Islands.

The Haitians won 2-0 in the second-leg game at the Ted Hendricks Stadium to record a 7-0 aggregate triumph over the little-rated Turks & Caicos Islands.

They will face Jamaica in the Confederation's second stage of 2006 World Cup qualifiers in June.

Haiti defender Peter Germain, who lost his house in Haiti to a fire this week during angry opposition protests in his French-speaking country, said they will now prepare for the Caribbean's number-one ranked Reggae Boyz.

"I'm happy that we got these two important victories, and now we must improve our focus against Jamaica," Germain said.

Similar to their 5-0 win Wednesday night at the Orange Bowl, Haiti controlled the action.

They took a 1-0 lead on Roody Lormera's penalty kick in the ninth minute and got the second goal three minutes before half-time when defender Paul Crosbie inadvertently deflected a cross into his own goal.
