Aspiring model Veronique Pitter poses for tthe camera. - Winston Sill/Freelance Photographer FOR 17-YEAR-OLD Veronique Pitter modelling is nothing new. Although she was only recently signed to an agency, Veronique says she has been modelling since age five.
"My mommy and other relatives think I'm pretty," she says. Because of this, Veronique says her family has always encouraged her to enter competitions that are suited for her. She has entered 'Miss Teen Jamaica', 'Miss Rollington Town', 'Miss Camperdown' in which she placed second (she was in first form at the time), and 'Mini Miss Jamaica', which she won at age seven.
Modelling is something Veronique always wanted to do. So when her friend saw a programme on TV about Champs Model Management and told her about it, she welcomed the opportunity to fulfil her dream.
At 5'8'' tall and 135lbs, the young model says she wants to pursue a modelling career "as far as it can take (her)" but she will not short-change herself on education. The Camperdown High sixth former says that when she just started modelling it affected her schoolwork because she would spend "most of her time thinking about it."
However she says that all that has changed. Now Veronique is focused on her education. "Education is a must," she says. "Education takes you anywhere. When beauty fails you can always rely on education."
At Camperdown Veronique focuses on the subject areas caribbean studies, sociology, literature and history. In addition to modelling, Veronique wants to pursue a career in journalism or law.
That however is for the future. Veronique has other things to which she has been paying attention. She has a green belt in karate and says that she will not stop until she gets her black belt. Though the bruises from that sport sometimes prove detrimental to maintaining a flawless complexion for modelling, Veronique says she is determined to continue with her karate. "I love winning trophies," she says.
