THE EDITOR, Sir:
Our so-called public servants need to be divested of some of their privileges, better yet, Jamaica needs to have an exodus of them. Can't their loved ones ask them to migrate?
If politicians are serious about making this country a better place to live in, they need to give up half of their salary and allowances every month to a private non-charitable organization who will then channel this fund to early childhood education, at least it will be money well spent.
Politicians will be treated very unkindly by history and they will only have themselves to blame.
Sir, the political directorate must ask educators, principals and teachers what is to be done for our children to be properly educated. It is my belief that the persons who are genuine with regards to education are not being made to implement their views.
Not being a consultant or advisor, these are my recommendations:
(a) Cut down to 57 or 59 constituencies.
(b) Desist with junior ministers.
(c) Persons rejected at the polls should not be given any Government, statutory or consultant jobs by the Government.
(d) Ministers of Government ought to pay their residence utility bills out of their pockets.
(e) Members of Parliament must reside in the constituencies they represent.
(f) Government vehicles should not transport wives and girlfriends and children.
(g) Free half of the security detail of the ministers and Members of Parliament so they can be returned to police duties.
(h) The train service is to resume.
(I) Give powers of arrest, search and seizure to the Auditor-General.
(j) Give funds to parish councils to bush empty lots and collect from owners of these lots.
(k) Convicted persons who have not appealed should now be put to work, building schools, repairing benches etc.
(l) Target all areas where water and electricity are being stolen.
(m) The Hon. Marcus Garvey's life must be a part of the school curriculum.
(n) Make the Hon. Robert Nesta Marley a National Hero.
In closing, if the unions sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) what is the Government giving up? We can console ourselves that no matter what is happening in our lives, Jesus is here for us.
I am, etc.,
