Jamaica on alert
published: Sunday | February 29, 2004

THE MINISTRY of National Security confirmed yesterday that the Jamaica Defence Force is now on standby with the rest of CARICOM to move in with peacekeeping forces, should the civil unrest in Haiti deteriorate further.

"Jamaica is on standby with the rest of CARICOM, the army has been alerted," said Donovan Nelson, communications adviser in the Ministry.

"We don't know what the requirements are yet in terms of the number (of soldiers) but proportionately I think we will be sending in more (soldiers) than the rest of the region," he added.
