Williams loses right little finger
published: Sunday | February 29, 2004

Williams

Trinidad, CMC:

FORMER WEST Indies batsman Stuart Williams has had his little finger on his right hand amputated.

Williams, 34, fractured his finger while fielding in the Leeward Islands' Carib Beer Series fifth round game against the Windward Islands in St. Maarten in early February and a decision was made to amputate the finger after gangrene had set in.

In the meantime, West Indies Players Association (WIPA) President Dinanath Ramnarine says WIPA is in discussions with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) over questionable medical attention given to Williams, the Leeward Islands captain.

The right-handed Williams played in five matches for the Leewards in the recently concluded Carib Beer Cup Regional Series and topped the batting averages for his team.

He scored a total of 329 runs from six innings including one century and two fifties to end with a healthy average of 54.83.

Williams played 32 Tests and 57 one-day internationals for the West Indies between 1993 and 2002.
