Clarifying case on Adams
published: Monday | March 1, 2004

THE EDITOR: Sir

Re: The headline 'Adams cleared' in The Gleaner of February 23,2004: With reference to the article we wish to clear up any misunderstandings that may have been derived from the article and the apparent misleading information.

Acting on the advice of the Solicitor General consideration was given not to prefer disciplinary charges SSP Adams because he was not warned about a specific breach, but generally. It does not infer, however that the rules and regulations of the Jamaica Constabulary Force were not breached. Rule 3.9 of the Police Book of Rules clearly state and I quote:

"A member shall not without the consent of the Commissioner of Police publish or communicate to the press or any unauthorised individual, any matter pertaining to the Force or any other matter in which such individual is involved."

Following a review by the Police Service Commission, which did not exculpate him, a confidential document was sent to SSP Adams.

I am, etc

IONIE RAMSAY-NELSON

Superintendent of Police

Director of the CCN
