Fabulous wedding fair
published: Tuesday | March 2, 2004

By Alicia Roache, Staff Reporter

BEAUTIFUL BRIDES and Mr Tux put on a fabulous wedding fair at the Knutsford Court Hotel, New Kingston on Sunday.

The programme, which began at 10 a.m., continued throughout the day and ended just after 8 p.m. There were beautifully decorated display booths by many purveyors of wedding items and services, all with the aim of inspiring wedding planners.

From cakes to make-up and everything in between, the potential bride and groom had all the items necessary for a fabulous wedding at their fingertips. During the day, one could attend tutorials on Ballroom dancing, the art of eloquent toasting, and wedding etiquette and table manners.

A SPRING OF COLOURS

Dubbed 'A Spring of Colours', the highlight of the wedding expo was the fashion show, which featured various samples of the wedding gown and tuxedo as well as the bridesmaids' outfits.

It was indeed colourful on the display floor and on-stage during the fashion show. There were the traditional white wedding gowns with lots of tulle, the train, rhinestones, veil and gloves.

Then there were gowns in very unusual and interesting but very delicate colours. There were pink, light yellow, green and purple gowns for brides and bridesmaids. Each gown had a special feature. Some were trimmed with beads, rhinestones or glitter across the bodice or the bustline, others had embroidered bodices. Straps were either non-existent or came in various sizes and styles.

VARIETY AND COLOUR

Some gowns had boleros, others had shawls, they were laced or buttoned at the back, were worn with or without gloves and were floor length or midcalf. Variety and colour dominated the presentation.

The men were not to be outdone however as they got a display of very snazzy outfits. The models looked debonair in suits that were in traditional black, along with creme and white. Suits were presented with or without ties and with vests of various shades.

It was obvious from the outset that the crowd which turned out to view the show was in for a good time even though the room was overflowing with guests. They enjoyed the presentation of the outfits as well as the witty quips of the host and producer of the show, Weston Haugton.

The many prizes that were given away, included a wedding ring valued at over $31,625 from Jewellerama, a Sealy Posturepedic bed valued at over $100,000 from Mckintosh Bedding Company, and gift certificates from various sponsors, and did their part in ensuring a joyful evening for those who won as well as for the audience which watched it all unfold.
