RGD ends same-day service
published: Tuesday | March 2, 2004

THE REGISTRAR General's Department, Twickenham Park, south central St. Catherine, is to discontinue its same-day service at its headquarters from today, replacing it with next day service, which will be offered at all RGD locations.

This means that customers may visit the four RGD regional offices located in Kingston, Montego Bay, Mandeville and St. Ann's Bay as well as the headquarters, to subscribe to the service.

Dr. Patricia Holness, chief executive officer at the RGD, made the announcement at the annual prayer breakfast at the RGD's headquarters on Friday.

"We have found that there continues to be overcrowding at the head office, because customers crave to access the same-day express service," Dr. Holness said. "This overcrowding has led to the temporary, but nonetheless, far from comfortable solution of the outdoor tents. The discomfort of that waiting environment is less than acceptable for our valued customers."

She said that the regular occurrence of fraudulent records, which numbered as high as six cases daily, contributed to the decision to discontinue the same-day service.

"When you inform customers that the record they have used for many years is fraudulent, they wait for a long while hoping that something will change," Dr. Holness said.

"We will also be announcing some special arrangements regarding the service for the month of March," she added.
