By Barbara Ellington, Gleaner WriterLADY GLADYS Bustamante was released Friday from the Tony Thwaites wing of the University Hospital of the West Indies after being admitted there for observation and tests a week earlier.
"She has been released and her doctors are happy with her progress," said Seragh Lakasingh, honorary chairman of the Bustamante Foundation and close friend of Lady B's, in an interview with The Gleaner.
He said the tests done revealed nothing of major concern and that Lady B widow of the late Sir Alexander Bustamante, National Hero and Jamaica's first Prime Minister was responding well to medication. She is now at home and in good condition.
Scores of well wishers have been making telephone calls to the hospital and many other places to express their concern for Lady B who along with Sir Alex, spearheaded the movement to improve the plight of working conditions for workers following the labour uprisings of 1938.
She has made significant contribution to the development of trade unionism in Jamaica.
Lady B left the hospital in her elegant Royal Salon Toyota Crown motor car, complete with police outriders and well wishers who cheered her along the route home.
On March 8, Lady B will celebrate her 92nd birthday. Unlike previous years, she will spend the day receiving guests quietly at home.
