It's time the Opposition got off its seat
published: Friday | March 5, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT IS time that the Opposition Party got off its seat and take measures to mobilise the people of Jamaica against the draconian measures being taken to correct the present economic situation brought upon us by the policies of the Government.

When the Government was spending money as if there was no limit, the people of Jamaica were not considered. And during that period many got fat because of the policies. Nearly everything Jamaican was for sale and those who purchased them are now making money, thanks to the Minister of Finance. I wonder how much of things Jamaican is left to sell.

My knowledge of economics does not go beyond A lLevel, two semesters at university and the school of life. One thing I know I do not live above what I can afford and I do not borrow to pay my debts.

We are on the fast track to become another Haiti economically, with the poverty of the majority. All members of Government should be students of history. There are lessons to be learnt from the French Revolution. When the poor can take no more they will be bound to take action.

I am, etc.,
