By Francine Black, Staff ReporterTHE NATIONAL Water Commission (NWC) is now seeking bids to carry out improvement works on the Mona Reservoir grounds as part of an extensive upgrading programme being carried out by the commission on its systems.
Charles Buchanan, NWC corporate relations manager, said the commission was seeking to improve conditions to give workers a more comfortable environment to work in, to foster greater levels of efficiency.
"The commission recognises that it has a large sprawling operation but it is very old," he said.
He pointed out that similar rehabilitation work is being done in the Great River to Lucea area in Hanover where 12-inch pipelines are being changed.
Similar rehabilitation is also being done in Port Antonio, Portland, where a sewage works facility is being built for the town.
GROUNDS WORK
The grounds work at the Mona reservoir will see an upgrade of the 2.75 kilometre roadway around the reservoir, used by joggers.
It will also cover the re-establishment and landscaping of designated green areas and the re-establishment of restroom facilities, designated parking areas and an upgrade to the security post.
The Mona grounds currently house the reservoir, the offices of the Kingston Metropolitan Area Water Supply and Rehabilitation Project, a treatment plant and storage areas.
The bids are due by today.
